I’ve been asked several times how I carve a pumpkin? How do you pick a good pumpkin? Do you remove the seeds and guts?
Size and shape, color, how it sits and stem size are some of the things pumpkin hunters look for. Also, you want to make sure that the pumpkin is heavy for it’s size as this is a good indication of the thickness of the outer carving flesh. The last thing that needs to be looked for is signs of rot or molds.
I DON’T usually remove the seeds from the inside of the pumpkin as most of my carving is done on the outside. I work at developing a 3-D look versus cutting holes into the pumpkin which allow for a light to be placed on the inside.
I have shown the various stages and the finished photo so that you can see how it turned out.
